In 1915, the Butterworths purchased a canvas ceiling painting from Hotel Danieli in Venice, Italy, which was originally the Palazzo Dandolo and home of the Dandolo family.  The Butterworths built the new library in 1917 to accommodate the 25 x 50 ceiling painting.
