Description: Come and be a part of an explosion of information about the brain and how it relates to the classroom, students and teachers. Many instructional aids, which emphasize thinking, will be demonstrated and experienced. The class will include hands-on computer experience for using technology in the brain-based classroom. Other topics include: nutrition and the brain, teaching techniques, physiology and the brain, strategies in multiple intelligences and brain-based activities for the classroom teacher.
Presenter: Dr. Nancy Frakes and Gary ZumMallen, with additional guest speakers
The workshop is available for 22 CPDU’s or may be taken for 2 grad credits through Aurora University.
Cost/Registration: $75.00, includes all lunches. Moline District #40 teachers may take the class for free (funded by the William Butterworth Memorial Trust). The graduate credits cost an additional $150.00. To register contact the Regional Office of Education at 309-736-1111.
Nature Across the Curriculum: Adventures with Audubon, Course 8294

Description: This course lays the foundation for understanding of nature and the work of John James Audubon. The format immerses teachers in life activities in the early 1800’s, emphasizing the application to cross curriculum lessons that incorporate nature themes in developing higher thinking skills, problem solving and communication skills.

The workshop is available for 15 CPDU’s or for one grad credit through Aurora University.

Portrait in the Attic: A Sixth Grade Art Program
Introduction to the educational program for 6th grade teachers and art teachers. “Portrait in the Attic” introduces students to art collections of historic Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House, acquaints children with local history, social history, and academic art. Teachers will learn how to incorporate this award-winning 6th grade art history program in the classroom and field trip curriculum.
