| Is
this the same tree in the painting? |
 |
| This
painting (above) was completed by Mary Little Dickinson Deere (Mrs.
Charles H. Deere) between 1872 and 1913. The setting depicts a tree
at the northern tip of the Deere-Wiman House lawn. In the distance,
the old Plow Works factory can be seen in the painting. No other
paintings by Mary Deere are known to exist today. |

| This
photograph (above) was taken in June of 2004, and shows a tree in the
location of the painting setting that looks strikingly similar to the tree
in painting. This photograph was taken facing the grounds, whereas the
painting is shown facing the Overlook view of Moline, Illinois. |
