Become a History Detective

The Junior Historian Jamboree program is open to teachers and their 4th grade students. The students will learn about local history in a historic setting, learn what historical resources are available, and how to use primary and secondary resources. Students will be using a variety of skills including decision making, problem solving and inquiry.
The half-day day program includes a series of four fun and interactive workshops and lunch.
Workshops
What's My Line
Instructor: Kathleen Seusy, Local Historian
Everyone will sort through a box of artifacts that will lead them to discover a person that has played a part in East Moline and Quad City history.
Puzzle
Instructor:Mark Slater (MHS Teacher) and MHS students
Participants will piece togehter 4 events or sites that relate to Moline history and the building of the first bridge across the Mississippi River.
Photographs: Our Eye to the Past
Instructor: Gretchen Small, Program Director for Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House
Everyone will learn about the development of photography and how to read a photograph to learn about the past. Each person will create their own photo album.
Building the Bridge
Shirley Ricketts, Mary Kay Johnson, Sharon Johnson (Retired Teachers)
Participants will look back at the building of the first bridge to cross the Mississippi River. Students will learn firsthand what went into the construction of the bridge.
Besides the workshops, everyone will enjoy lunch in the Deere-Wiman Carriage House and a closing program in the Butterworth Center Library. We will end the day with a special program and learn more about the Mississippi River.
